Farmer donates towards small stock initiative

New Xanagas farmer, Mr Auvanga Katjiova has donated four Kalahari Red bucks to President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi’s small stock industry promotion initiative.
Receiving the donation recently, on behalf of the President, Assistant Minister of Agriculture Development and Food Security, Ms Beauty Manake applauded Mr Katjiova for supporting the intiative.
She noted that the initiative would increase small stock which would prove beneficial as it came at an opportune time when the Government had secured a lucrative international market for small stock.
The MP for Ghantsi South, Mr Motsamai Motsamai said the gesture would benefit less privileged members of the community.
For his part, Mr Katjiova said he found it befitting to donate four bucks from his kraal because of the positive prospects of the initiative.
Responding to the concern that there was no veterinary officer at New Xanagas, Acting District Agricultural coordinator, Mr Patrick Boitshwarelo said funds permitting they would employ a temporary veterinary officer for the village.
Meanwhile, Head of Commercial and Business Development at Botswana Agricultural Marketing Board (BAMB), Ms Kopano Mokobi challenged farmers to utilise services of BushVet, which provided mobile veterinary services.
Ms Mokobi said farmers could group themselves and share the cost of its services.
BushVet fees stood at P2.16 per kilometre, P500 per hour for professional assistance by a veterinary assistant and P800 per hour for veterinary doctor. Ends
