The Minister of Youth Empowerment, Sport and Culture Development (MYSC), Mr Tumiso Rakgare, visited Serowe Radihemelo Grey Water Project on Friday.
The project is a partnership between the youth ministry and that of Agricultural Development and Food Security (MoA).
MYSC disbursed P5 million to MoA to facilitate development of the infrastructure for youth beneficiaries.
During the tour, one of the youth engaged in the project, Mr Leatile Keitumetse, said despite challenges, they were working hard to increase production.
He said he teamed with Ms Omphile Manyaapelo who was still waiting MYSC to attend to tunnels at the space she was allocated. Both farm tomatoes.
They informed Mr Rakgare that they had a problem with grey water system they were using and they were not allowed to grow some vegetables as well as other edible produce.
They wished to plough vegetables such as cabbage and rape, which they believed could also boost production.
They appealed to the MYSC and MoA to consider connecting them to clean water so that they could grow other crops currently not allowed to water using grey water.
Another youth entrepreneur, Mr Bobby Ndlovu, who grows green peppers and tomatoes informed the minister that his business was promising.
He said he had hired another youth to help him in his business.
Minister Rakgare acknowledged the good work at Serowe Radihemelo Grey Water Project and advised youth to take the project seriously because it was a lifetime opportunity.
He encouraged youths to work hard and ensure that the project could become a success.
Mr Rakgare said projects such as Serowe Radihemelo Grey Water Project needed to be appreciated because of their potential to turn lives of youths around.
He promised youths that the ministry would work to rectify technical challenges experienced after the construction of tunnels at the project. ENDS
