BotswanaPost continues to be the most accessible financial services provider in Botswana, according to board chairperson, Mr Martin Makgatlhe.
Speaking at the World Post Day commemoration in Gumare recently, Mr Makgatlhe said they were proud that their services in 125 post offices around the country were inclusive and accessible. He added that they were also happy to provide services such as pre-paid electricity. Mr Makgatlhe noted that there was need to re-define the organisation because the traditional postal products such as the letter were declining.
“About two years ago, we adopted an icon of excellence strategy, premised on three themes of business growth, operational efficiency and service excellence”. In an effort to improve their efficiency, he said they launched a technology project which had enabled them to automate their post office counters around the country and improve efficiency with provision of online real time transactions.
Such steps, he said, had created opportunities for businesses and government to use the post office as a one-stop shop for products and services. Mr Makgatlhe also said they had partnered with Cloud Seed, a company which would assist BotswanaPost provide internet connectivity in public areas. He indicated that the exercise started in towns, particularly at airports, but added they were planning to roll out the service throughout the country.
One of the villagers, Mr Aleck Mmatli said in an interview that he was happy with the services the post office provided. He said buying electricity was now easy because it was available from any post office, adding that has also helped elders to get their social grants anytime in any post office around the country.
BotswanaPost has been operating since 1875 and was commemorating the day under the theme ‘The Post, delivering for people and businesses daily.’ Ends
