Cases of GBV in Ditladi worrisome

Rising cases of gender based violence (GBV) have been worrisome for the people of Ditladi.
Kgosi Simon Nkageng of Tatisiding said this recently after he presided over a number of cases from Ditladi.
In two of the cases he presided over lately, he said they had similar cases of two young men aged between 21 and 23 who buttered and assaulted their ex partners.
Ephraim Motsumi, 23, who was accused of assaulting her then partner, Ms Tshepiso Donald, 30 was sentenced to a year in jail, which was suspended and he was given six strokes on the buttocks.
The accused had pleaded that his sentence be suspended saying jail time would deny him an opportunity to take care of his parents’ livestock and his baby.
Another accused person, Gofaone Motlalemetsi, 21, who was also accused of beating up his ex-partner Ms Kediemetse Dick was found guilty as charged.
He was then sentenced to a year in jail, which was suspended.
He was instead given six lashes after he pleaded for the mercy of the court.
He said he had responsibilities towards his child and family livestock.
Kgosi Nkageng said soaring incidents of assaults were worrisome and appealed to the youth to reframe from criminal activities sinces they could end up ruining their lives. ENDS
