Innovation Africa Summit comes to Gaborone

The Ministry of Education and Skills Development (MOESD) will host Innovation Africa Summit in Gaborone from October 15-17
Education minister, Dr Pelonomi Venson-Moitoi told a press conference on October 9 that the summit would serve as a platform for exchange of ideas and benchmarking of best practices as well as forming of networks among the practitioners.
Dr Venson -Moitoi said the summit would also bring together various stakeholders in education along with the private sector with a focus on innovation and the use of ICT in teaching and learning.
She said Botswana had been participating in the Innovation Africa Summits as it had interest in ensuring that the education given to citizens was aligned to international best practice.
She noted that the summit would be structured around an innovative programme of panel discussions and interactive sessions by ministers, government officials, leading educationalists and technologists during the morning sessions followed by pre-scheduled one-one meetings for both afternoons of the event.
The key issues for discussion would focus on ICT for education, technologies, standards, e-learning and m-learning, curriculum development and teacher training, communications infrastructure, broadband last mile connectivity.
Minister Venson-Moitoi said hosting the conference would bring added benefits to the country’s education system by facilitating exchange of innovative and researched ideas on the use of ICT in education and also cutting edge technologies and methodologies in teaching and learning.
She added that it would increase passenger numbers at the airports and increase in hotel occupancy would be of economic benefit to the country. The summit will be hosted under the theme,” Connecting industry to government and civil society.” Ends
