09 Oct 2013

Thari ya Setso, a traditional music group based in Tsabong, has released a second album entitled Lephata.

The six-track album features songs such as Segwagwa, Dibuleleng , Lephata, Selelo, Kgang and Sekaka, which has so far proven to be the public’s  favorite.

In an interview with the group’s director, Tshwarelo Mmoloki , Lephata was dedicated to the Department of Arts and Culture for its continued efforts in promoting arts and culture, he explained.

The song, according to the director, was meant to send gratitude and also encouraged the department to keep up the good work of transforming and cultivating arts in Botswana as well as playing a pivotal role in the preservation of culture.

The track Sekaka focused on the Kgalagadi desert and addresses issues of tourism. Mmoloki said the motive behind the song was to expose the beauty of the Kgalagadi desert by zooming keenly on its flora and fauna and displaying them as the treasures of the district.

Another track, Dibuleleng is dedicated to the group members’ commitment to the cause of the traditional music by detailing their strengths and achievements.

“In this song, Thari ya setso group members are likened to bulls. This is meant to show our power, our strengths and our ability to overcome challenges we come across in our everyday lives,” Mmoloki said.

Mmoloki stated that the album, which was recorded at Bullet Music Production and was only a few days old, had experienced a fair reception from the public. He said that they hadsold more than 120 copies at the moment and that more orders were coming in from as far as South-Africa and Namibia.

Mmoloki appealed to Batswana to support them by buying their album, saying that music is their sole source of income and livelihood. He said that the album will be available in the market by the end of this month.

The new album follows the release of the group’s first album, Dipoo tsa thari which shot the group to popularity in Tsabong and its peripheries. Ends
