Same Molete and Nozibonela Payet will tussle it out for the coveted Botswana Softball Association secretary position during the association’s elections scheduled for Gaborone on Saturday.

The two women will battle it out for the position deemed to be the backbone of any organ.

Some softball followers are of the view that the two women could help revive the game of softball. They said instead of competing against each other one could have stood for the two vacant positions of vice president and public relations and marketing officer.

The unopposed positions are that of the president where Katlholo Mosimanegape will be unchallenged. Abel Mataboge and Puso Kgosietsile stand unopposed for the position of competitions organiser and treasurer respectively.

Molete, who is a founding member of Mahalapye based softball club Rail Giants Softball Club, has vast experience given that she served in the northern zone committee as secretary and treasurer. In 2014 she was the manager of the senior women team to the world championships in Amsterdam, Netherlands.

In her manifesto, Molete states that she has a wealth of experience through the various portfolio’s that she has been privileged to serve. She was the secretary, treasurer, national team manager and currently the zonal general manager.

When elected she said she would introduce new technology-based approaches to the administration for easier management of data and records.

She said she would also foster portfolio accountability, club management formalisation as well as training and improving relations between the national executive committee.

Payet also has vast experience in sports administratio. She is the current Women and Sport Botswana (WASBO) Gaborone region chairperson and former BSA south zone secretary.

She said if voted her target would be stakeholder engagement and involvement, adding that she would create meaningful partnerships given their importance to any association.

She said for BSA to create meaningful partnerships it had to have a clearly defined mandate and a defined stakeholder engagement strategy.

Furthermore, she said for softball to progress it was imperative that they embraced technology-based approaches to administration in the association.

She said it was also logical that as the world moved to a virtual and numeric administrative model they should follow suit.

“One of the things I intend to introduce is an online registration of players. This will be cost-effective in terms of paper and time, among other things,” she said. ENDS
