Police caution against obtaining by false pretence

Kanye Police Station Commander, Superintendent Mmoloki Mogale has warned the public about criminals who obtain people’s valuables through false pretence.
In an interview, he said they were investigating a case in which a 59-year-old man of Ntlhantlhe was swindled of cash amounting to P9 740 near Mongala Mall this wek.
He said preliminary investigations indicated that the criminals followed the man from a nearby ATM machine, and that one of them approched the victim pretending that he had lost some cash.
He said during their conversation other members of the gang appeared and pretended to be police officers who were investigating a case of stolen money. He said they took P740, an ATM card and pin number from the man and proceeded to cash P9 000 from his account from the ATM machine.
The station commander said police investigations were continuing and that they have advised the man to block his ATM card to prevent further transactions.
He urged residents to be vigilant when using ATMs and to alert people since most of the incidents took place in broad daylight and in public places. ENDS
