Central Police Station arrest illegal liquor trader

Police have arrested a 29-year-man of Tati Siding for being in possession of alcohol.
Francistown Central Police Station commander, Superintendent Lebalang Maniki, said a sedan car was, on Sunday, used to transport alcohol believed to have been brought in through an ungazetted point.
He said the arrest was along Matshelagabedi Road and items found included 475 bottles of 775ml of castle light, 108 Goldern dry Gin (750ml) and 113 Gold Blend Black 750ml, adding that they had registered four similar cases.
He said after completion of investigations, the suspect might be charged for illegally importing liquor through ungazetted point.
“Since the selling of alcohol was suspended, illegal import tremendously increased and efforts are being made at all costs to arrest offenders,” Supt Maniki said.
He also said the crime rate was low since commencement of curfew restrictions.
He said there was compliance to COVID-19 protocols with few cases of about 10 people per day being arrested for not putting on their masks.
Supt Maniki advised people to lookout for a group of fraudsters swindling people promising them PSV licence at a cheap rate and to-date people had been robbed over P50 000.
He said a woman behind the syndicate was in police custody and likely to be charged for obtaining by false pretences and a fine of not exceeding 7 years.
Supt Maniki said the syndicate went around advising people that the woman could avail a genuine PSV licences.
Meanwhile, Kutlwano police’s Assistant Superintendant Alice Oabile said crime rate had decreased in her policing area.
She said although curfew had helped, gender based violence cases were still being recorded and over the weekend the office recorded three GBV cases, including that of a critically injured woman admitted at Nyangabgwe Referal Hostital.
She said the office also recorded two burglary cases at Molapo and two at Selepa locations on the outskirts of Francistown, saying thieves took advantage bush around knowing that such areas were not reachable during patrols.ENDS
