Suspect found hanging decomposed

15 Feb 2021

Baines Drift police have, on Saturday, found a decomposed body of a suspect they have been hunting for hanging on a tree just outside Tsetsebjwe, station commander Superintendent Onneetse Gagogosha reports.

The suspect was on the run following a gender-based violence incident in which, in the morning of February 6 at Tsetsebjwe Junior Secondary School, he allegedly stabbed his girlfriend with a sharp object under her breast and left her for dead.

Speaking in an interview Sunday evening, Superintendent Gagogosha said the 40-year-old man of Toromoja was found on Saturday around 330pm subsequent to fleeing the crime scene on February 6 after allegedly stabbing his 38-year old-girlfriend.

Baines Drift police chief revealed that upon receiving a report from a passerby, the police crew found a man in a completely decomposed state and consequently called pathologists to conduct postmortem at the scene.

The Baines Drift police chief opined that the suspect, who at the time was unemployed and staying at the girlfriend’s house in Tonota, could have hung himself immediately after the horrific attack on his lover.

Meanwhile, Superintendent Gagogosha expressed concern over incidents of gender-based violence.

He encouraged lovers facing difficulties in their relationships to seek help from inter alia social workers, police officers and district officers.

He also called on lovers to learn to accept break ups. ENDS
