Former Botswana Public Officers Pension Fund (BPOPF) CEO, Lesedi Moakofhi, who is facing corruption charges, will mention on February 23 for status hearing.

Moakofhi appeared before Regional Magistrate (South), Mr Masilo Mathaka at Broadhurst Magistrate Court on February 11.

Particulars of the charge are that the accused person, who was by then a BPOPF employee as acting CEO, on or about November 11, 2014 in Gaborone, acted together and in consent with one Carter Morupisi (not before the court), the then BPOPF board chairperson, to co-signed a contract between BPOPF and Capital Management Botswana (CMB) for the benefit of the latter.

It is reported that Moakofhi knew well that they had no power or authority to do so, as the business of the board of trustees for the said BPOPF was on suspension by an order of the High Court dated October 7, 2014.

Public prosecutor, Ms Priscilla Israel stated that the court and the defence team were served with committal documents on February 5.

Ms Israel also added that the defence team were, prior to court appearance, served with particulars of the case and therefore it was necessary to grant them time to familiarise with the documents.
