Pupils caught with two rifles

Two pupils of Disana Primary School are assisting Maun police in investigations of two rifles which were stolen on September 27 at Matlapana ward. Superintendent Kenanao Badumetse said in an interview that duo aged 10 and 12 respectively were suspected to have stolen the rifles named Mauser 7.62 and Beretta 0.222 noting that the rifles had live bullets as the first one had 36 while the second one had 147 bullets.

He said the received a report from the owner who is a 60-year old man noting that it was reported that he had been outside the country since August this year and realized  that his house had been broken and the rifles were missing. Superintendent Badumetse said the suspects took the police to an abandoned house where the found the stolen property. He said since the suspects are under age, they are working hand in hand with their parents to see how best they can address the issue.

On other issues he noted that they are investigating an accident which involved a Toyota Hilux and Mazda 3. The two vehicles collided at Shashe bridge early in the morning around 530am. Superintendent Badumetse said the Mazda was from the opposite direction heading to Sehithwa village and the driver got off his lane hitting the Toyota Hilux.

He said the driver of the Mazda sustained head injuries and bruises on the arms and currently he is admitted at Letsholathebe Memorial hospital while the other drive escaped with no injuries. Besides the two incidents, Superintendent Badumetse said the independence celebrations were calm as no serious incidents were recorded and commended residents for their cooperation. ENDS
