A 28-year-old man of Maun recently appeared before Maun Magistrate Court to face charges of murder and assault.

The accused, Kagiso Sekeseke, is facing three charges of murder, attempted murder and common assault. 

Particulars of the offence are that on November 26, 2020, the mother to the accused, Ms Christina Ledimo, who was visiting her son at her grandmother’s place at Newtown ward in Maun, asked the accused to assist her to carry some iron sheet.

The accused is purported to have refused to assist his mother and allegedly proceeded to assault his aunt, Ms Dikeledi Sekeseke claiming that her aunt was the one who asked him to assist his mother.

It is alleged that the accused mother ran for her life while his uncle, Mr Noah Sekeseke attempted to rebuke the accused. The accused then brutally attacked his uncle.

The accused then allegedly followed his mother who was hiding with ther elder sister, Ms Ruth Segwadi in the kitchen.

It is alleged that the accused forcibly opened the kitchen and brutally attacked Segwadi with a machete while his mother allegedly managed to escape and run to her car then drove off.

The 66-year-old accused’s uncle, who was hospitalised at Nyangabwe Referral Hospital, succumbed to his injuries and died on December 20.

State prosecutor, Mr Bezi Seralanyane said the accused had been taken for psychiatric evaluation and that they were waiting for the report.The accused stated that the court should read him facts of the matter and sentence him immediately.

Magistrate Keneilwe Kgoadi ordered that the accused be taken for psychiatric evaluation and remanded until February 9.ENDS
