A Motswana fugitive who has been harbouring in Namibia after allegedly committing a crime in Botswana has been extradited.
Onkabetse Mogwe, 54, who had been wanted for obtaining by false pretense, was handed to Botswana authorities by their Namibian counterparts at Mamuno Border Post on January 12.
It is alleged that on November 24, 2016, Mogwe fraudulently deceived P25 000 from Obusitswe Waniwa as the purchase price for a vehicle by falsely presenting himself as the owner of the said vehicle.
In an interview after receiving the fugitive, assistant director of Public Prosecutions, Ms Priscilla Israel said the Directorate on Public Prosecutions (DPP) sent extradiction documents in October 2019 and was happy that the process went smoothly.
“The delay was caused by the fact that extradiction is a process that goes through the courts,” she explained She explained that if it was found that the fugitive had committed any other offence prior to the extradiction, they would need consent from Namibia to prosecute him for that offence.
She said he would be arraignment on February 11 before the Kasane Magistrate Court. Ends
