14 Jan 2021

Chief Magistrate Thebeetsile Molalu of Maun, on Tuesday, sentenced two men to 10 years imprisonment for robbery and five years for motor vehicle theft.

The sentences will run concurrently.

The two men are 43-year-old Moagi Gabantheetse and 37-year-old Lyod Choto.

Chief Magistrate Molalu said the court did not establish any extenuating circumstances.

He said the court had also considered the fact that Gabantheetse had already spent one year and a month behind bars while Choto spent two years in jail.

According to the charge sheet, the two accused persons on September 30, 2018 at around 2am at Boseja-Kubung ward in Maun, entered into a house belonging to Ms Josephine Moetse, who was sleeping at that time.

Court heard that Ms Moetse was allegedly awaken by the alarm signal and went to unlock her bedroom door when she saw the two accused persons armed with a matchet and a pick axe.

The two men reportedly forced the complainant to get back inside her bedroom and demanded her automated teller machine bank card, cellphone and money.

Ms Moetse gave them her Samsung Galaxy phone and P300 cash.

The two men then forced the complainant into her Corolla Vios model vehicle and drove into the bush where they abandoned her.

However, the complainant managed to untie herself and asked for help in the nearby homestead. Ends
