12 Jan 2021

Station commander of Letlhakeng police, Superintendent Mogomotsi Kesupile, has applauded residents in his policing area for responding positively to the curfew times.

Speaking in an interview on Friday, Supt Kesupile said though it was common for some people to be fond of breaking the law, that was not the case in his area.

However, he said they charged some people for failing to comply with COVID-19 protocols and curfew.

Supt Kesupile said during the period of the curfew, they recorded 27 cases of people who failed to put on their masks and 117 for failing to observe the curfew times.

He said such behaviour was worrisome since it revealed that some people were taking this matter lightly but vowed to charge them accordingly.

Supt Kesupile said unlawful gathering during the festive season was rampant as people used undesignated areas for entertainment.

He therefore advised Batswana to behave themselves as the entertainment season would bounce back to normal post COVID-19.

He said the curfew was in no way meant to punish Batswana, but to protect them against the corona virus, which had proved to be both costly and deadly.

Supt Kesupile implored Batswana to have good working relations with the police so that they could could work together to end crime and theft in their communities.

He said on Christmas Day they recorded a suicide case at Sorilatholo where a 34 year old man hanged himself after stabbing another man with a sharp instrument and the investigations were on going.

The station commander said they also recorded six cases of drunken driving and 19 cases of driving without a license.

Supt Kesupile further said they recorded six accidents with two being fatal though no life was lost but the passengers sustained serious injuries. BOPA
