Police investigate murder incident

Maun police are investigating a murder incident in which a 30-year-old man of Nxaraga in the North West District was stabbed to death with a sharp object around the neck.

Superintendent Chenamo Orateng confirmed the incident in an interview stating that they received a report on January 2 and rushed to the scene where they found the deceased laying motionless with serious injuries around the neck.

He said he was taken to Letsholathebe Memorial hospital where he was certified dead.

Supt. Orateng said they had managed to arrest 29-year-old man of Etsha 6 in connection with the incident on January 3, and he was currently assisting police in their investigations.

He said according to reports, the suspect and the deceased had a misunderstanding and the suspect stabbed him with an object.

Supt. Orateng said the suspect would appear before Maun Magistrate C       ourt while investigations continue.

Meanwhile in Gumare, Superintendent Dennis Zilawe said 289 people were charged for violating COVID-19 protocols during the festive season.

The offenders, he said were charged for unlawful gathering, roaming the streets during curfew, among other things.

He said they were charged fines ranging between P100-P500 and 242 managed to pay while the rest would be arraigned before customary court.

Supt Zilawe said it was worrying that some people continued to violate the health protocols. He appealed to the general public to exercise self-discipline and adhere to the set regulations as the pandemic affected all.

On traffic issues, the police chief noted they did not record any fatal incidents except minor cases such as driving without a license and driving vehicles not road worthy among others. Eighty-six cases were registered.

Supt Zilawe also noted that they registered nine cases of assaults and two incidents of affray. Besides that, he said the festive season was peaceful and thanked Gumare community for cooperating with police. Ends
