02 Jan 2021

Maun police are appealing to the general public to assist with information leading to the arrest of two unknown men who robbed a 56 year old British man of Disana Ward of his valuables on New Year’s Day.

Assistant Superintendent Borefeletse Papane revealed in an interview that the incident took place around 6am as the suspects broke into the house carrying axes while their faces were covered and walked away with valuables such as three cellphones, P500 cash and a Toyota Rav4 vehicle.

The suspects, he said fought the victim until he became helpless and they managed to tie his hands before they took his belongings and locked him inside the house.

Ass. Supt Papane said the matter was reported by the victim’s friends who came to his house and got shocked when they found a trail of blood traces leading from the house while the victim was screaming inside.

The friends, he said forced entry into the house and found him (victim) with serious injuries on the head and both hands. He said the victim was rushed to Letsholathebe II Memorial Hospital where he was treated and discharged the same day while investigations continue.

Still in Maun, Ass. Supt Papane said they were investigating a rape incident which took place on New Year’s eve at around 11pm.

The incident, he said, involved a 40-year-old woman of Sedie Ward who was attacked by a man while on her way home from the neighbours.

Narrating her ordeal, he said the victim reported that the suspect approached her and hit her with something and when she fell down, he raped her before disappearing into the night.

Besides the two incidents, Ass. Supt Papane said the New Year holidays were calm and peaceful as members of the community were very cooperative and obeying curfew.

He also noted that Maun and surrounding areas were blessed as they received heavy showers on New Year’s eve, which restricted movement of people hence they experienced reduction in criminal activities. ENDS
