02 Jan 2021

Kutlwano police in Francistown are investigating a fatal accident in which a 31-year-old woman was knocked down by a police vehicle in the early hours of New Year’s Day.

Kutlwano police traffic officer, Assistant Superintendent Samuel Masole confirmed the incident saying investigations into the matter were on-going.

He said explained that the incident happened around 5am at Block one adjacent to a Gaborone hiking spot.

Assistant Superintendent Masole said the body of the deceased was lying at Nyangabgwe Referral Hospital for post mortem and that relatives had been notified.

Meanwhile, Assistant Superintendent Masole said they had arrested a number of people, who did not obey recently introduced curfew restrictions.

Those arrested, he explained, were fined P200 and most of them had paid their fines.

Meanwhile, Assistant Superintendent Masole has hailed the business community for adhering to the set restrictions adding that most of them closed their businesses on time.

Tatitown Station Commander Superintendent Leposo explained that there was calm in his area of jurisdiction.

He explained that they recorded no major criminal activities and traffic accidents attributing this to the curfew implemented by President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi.

“We did not record any fatal accident nor any serious crime during the crossover and New Year’s Day and I want to thank Batswana for having been cooperative during this season.  There was a smooth cooperation as far as the level of curfew compliance was concerned,” he said. ENDS
