01 Jan 2021

Officer Commanding District NO.5, Senior Superintendent Peter Gochela, has credited introduction of curfew to reduction of criminal activities in his policing area. Mr Gochela said in an interview that they did not record serious offences except one rape incident, which took place at Shashe ward on Monday He said the incident involved a middle aged woman who was attacked and raped by her ex-boyfriend while sleeping in her house.

Snr Supt Gochela said the suspect allegedly sneaked into the house.

The police, he said, had also charged a 27-year-old man P5 000 for illegally selling alcohol and for causing unlawful gathering of people.

He said the suspect had secured a spot in the bush between Botshabelo ward and Tsutsubega settlement in the outskirt of Maun where he sold alcohol. Besides the two incidents, Snr Supt. Gochela acknowledged that the community took the curfew regulations seriously and most of them stayed home.

He said they had learnt that the more people stayed home, the lesser the risk of criminal activities and urged the community to exercise patience.

He also highlighted that the police had intensified their operational strategies. "We are now embarking on the intelligence led policing exercise in order to win the battle. I encourage the community to work jointly with us and report any suspicious acts so that we can attend to it on time," he addd. Ends
