The state has amended the charge sheet in Moabi Molapisi’s case to reflect four charges instead of a single count of murder.
The State Prosecutor, Mr Modibedi Tladi of Directorate on Public Prosecution informed the court on December 14, when Molapisi appeared before Maun Chief Magistrate Keneilwe Kgoadi, that the state had completed investigations and thus amended the charge sheet.
The state prosecutor also said the state had started the process of committing the case to the high court, which he said would take between two and four weeks.
According to the new charge sheet, the 40-year-old Molapisi is facing a charge of murder of his mother Kehetwe Molapisi alleged to have happened on June 28 at Matlapana ward in Maun.
In the second count, the accused is alleged to have broken into Kehetwe Molapisi’s bedroom at Matlapana in Maun, with the intention to commit a crime on June 28.
On the third count, the accused is facing a charge of obtaining by false pretenses after he allegedly had a fuel attendant at Sedie Shell Fuel station in Maun to fuel his vehicle with petrol worth P847.40, claiming that he will pay through a Point of Sale (POS) machine, which claim was false.
On the fourth count, the accused is facing a charge of unlawful use of a silver Toyota Double cab motor vehicle that belonged to Kehetwe Molapisi on June 28.
When commenting on the amendments, the accused said some of the additional charges were ridiculous such as the unlawful use of the motor vehicle.
He argued that he had been using the vehicle for over five years and was never charged for unlawful use.
He revealed that he was facing a charge of drunken driving, in a separate matter, using the same vehicle.
The accused also queried when the state would allow him to re-apply for bail, since it had stated that investigations were complete.
The State Prosecutor said all the charges were relevant and that it was upon the state to prove the allegations.
Mr Tladi said the accused was at liberty to apply for bail at any given time, as he and his then attorney, chose to withdraw their bail application in August.
Molapisi will appear again on December 29 for mention. ends
