Department of Agriculture staff show compassion

Members of staff at the Department of Agriculture in Serowe on recently donated 14 Tswana breed chickens and a poultry house to Ms Oaitse Rabakane of Bothoka ward. The donation was made by the Department of Agriculture football team as part of their mission to assist the needy.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Mr Kabo Bowe, an Agronomist in the crop production office, said staff members contributed funds from their own pockets during their various football games and then identified a needy person to assist. He revealed that it is not the first time for the football team to donate to the needy, as they donated a garden to a needy person last year.
Mr Bowe also revealed that forming a football team has united the members of staff and helped them to work together as one unit with common ideas. He assured Ms Rabakane that the members of staff will assist her to manage and vaccinate her chickens over the next three months.
For his part, the Chairperson of Central District Council Mr Lesego Raditanka commended the members of staff for their generosity, saying their efforts are in line with the vision 2016 ideal of making Botswana a caring and compassionate nation.He also thanked management of the Department of Agriculture for supporting their juniors’ initiative.
“I urge this team to continue helping the unprivileged. You are showing everyone the true benefits of sports,” he said. Mr Raditanka also encouraged team members to continue working together and reaping more benefits for the nation. He also encouraged them to participate in activities aimed at helping and bringing people closer together, saying this will help people to avoid social ills like alcohol and drug abuse. ENDS
