Kgosi Mosadi Seboko of Balete says it is importance to sensitise elderly people about gender-based violence as it affects them too.

She said this during Keabonye Ntsabane Gender Based Violence Trust Christmas event, where the trust donated food hampers to 65 elderly people of Taung.

The event, in its seventh year running, was held at Taung kgotla on Thursday.

Speaking to the beneficiaries who attended the event, Kgosi Mosadi said older people were also affected by gender-based violence, hence they should not be left out.

Further, she said sharing information with elders could also help as they could also sensitise their children about GBV.

She added that there was need to fight all kinds of GBV and encouraged elders not to conceal such cases.

Kgosi Mosadi said concealing such cases equaled taking part in the same crime committed and added that perpetrators of violence should face the law.

The Balete kgosi also said parents should discourage cohabitation, drugs and substance abuse, which contributed to gender-based violence.

Kgosi Mosadi said although cases of women who were abused by men were higher, women should also refrain from abusing  men too.

Ramotswa Member of Parliament and Minister of Mineral Resources, Green Technology and Energy Security, Mr Lefoko Moagi commended the Keabonye Ntsabane Gender Based Violence Trust for a good job in sensitising the community about gender-based violence.

Mr Moagi said it was without  doubt that the trust was about saving lives and improving the community wellbeing.

The Ramotswa legislator said love and care should be the cornerstone of the community wellbeing.

Therefore, he said those who were abusing others should be brought before the law to answer for their actions and be corrected.

The trust founder, Ms Keabonye Ntsabane, also the area councillor, said most elderly people needed education on gender-based violence.

Therefore, Ms Ntsabane said the session afforded the trust an opportunity to share information with them.

Further, Ms Ntsabane said they were assisted by Caring Touch Ladies with donations as well as First Lady Ms Neo Masisi with sugar, milk and plastics bags while Sir Ketumile Masire Foundation donated soap packets.

The trust also donated toiletries to twenty police volunteers. Ends
