26 Nov 2020
Francistown assistant district commissioner, Patrick Isaac says football fraternity is faced with leadership challenges.
Speaking during official opening of a five-day administration and management course workshop organised by Botswana Football Association (BFA) in Francistown on
November 25, he said it was important for football leaders to change the way they had been doing things by knowing what was important for respective teams and football in general.
He stated that if leadership failed, all would go the wrong way and that would not benefit any association.
Isaac said it was vital for all team leaders to ensure that they equip themselves with necessary skills from the course so that going back to their teams, they would do things accordingly to avoid setbacks.
He noted that it was their wish as football community to see change in the football industry, in the country through skills leaders would be equipped with from the course.
He noted that it was saddening for the city to not have a team at the elite league adding that there was still hope that one day that one of the teams would be in the top league.
Ashford Mamelodi of Mamelodi Consultancy also noted that the weakest part of football was leadership thereby it was upon all to challenge themselves in ensuring that they change the way they manage and run football.
He said it was critical to empower leaders to embrace governance principles adding that after the course, all should be encouraged to have strategic plans for their teams to help drive their teams to higher levels.
Mamelodi said stakeholder management was an important part of football thereby significant that team leaders should know community leaders, build that friendly relationship with them so that whenever they have issues in their teams they would vouch to help them since football was for everyone.
Moreover, he said the workshop focused on issues of marketing in order to equip team leaders with necessary skills to market their team well enough and even the country’s football.
As administrators, he said they had to assess themselves on whether they would be able to make informed and relevant decisions, which would benefit the football industry and teams and urged all to ensure that everywhere they were they always leave a lasting legacy.
First Division North secretary, Obvious Moyo applauded BFA leadership for engaging and empowering football pundits with the responsibilities of teaching regions around the country on football issues.
He urged participants to take the course seriously so to become better women and men of integrity and be able to change the scope of football inFrancistown. ENDS
