Seperu dance groups to be receive honours

Okavango dance groups Shoshoruka of the Seperu fame and Kamberera for Diware will perform at the Independence Day celebrations in Gaborone. The groups will also receive a Presidential award of Meritorious Service.

Okavango senior culture officer Omphitlhetse Tshukudu said in an interview that at the moment they were preparing for the departure of the groups for Gaborone. The two groups both scooped position one at the President Day competitions.

“The Okavango region is rich in  traditional song and dance and has about 30 groups that are very competitive,” he said. He also noted that even during competitions, the elimination process was tough as the group’s performances were exceptionally good. Shoshoruka dancers impressed President Khama during his kgotla meetings recently in July in Ikoga and he invited them to perform during the independence celebrations.

Shoshoruka coordinator, Lethebe Sethwara said it was a privilege to be invited and thanked the Office of the President for such an honour.

“We are equipped as we have been camping since the September 2 in order to take the taste of northwest region to the people.’’ Kamberera coordinator, Gothatajang Moyambango also shared the same sentiments. He noted that their group started practising on September 16 and an invitation to perform during independence celebrations. He said the invitation celebration demonstrated that the group was growing.
