Botswana Agricultural Marketing Board (BAMB) and Botswana University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (BUAN) have signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) aimed at knowledge and skills development.
Speaking at the signing ceremony in Gaborone on November 16, BAMB CEO, Mr Leonard Morakaladi said BUAN was an important stakeholder in the development and commercialisation of the horticulture industry, hence the collaboration.
“By engaging in this MoA, both organisations intend to broaden the scope of their activities in pursuit of enhancing and collaborating on the provision of Agricultural inputs, benchmarking programmes, establishment of demonstration of sites and capacity building for farmers and staff,” he explained.
Mr Morakaladi expressed hope that the collaboration would influence and shape the agricultural sector on issues of research, inputs, student integrated learning and most importantly new technologies.
For his part, BUAN vice chancellor, Professor Jasper Rees said the partnership would help in strengthening the agricultural industry and create sustainability in the long term.
“The agreement will focus on issues of knowledge development and transfer, skills development and the growth of viable businesses in agriculture,” he stated.
Furthermore, Professor Rees said the MoA provided opportunities to create high paying jobs through modern agriculture in a sustainable environment. Ends
