SPEDU launches tip-off line

15 Nov 2020

In its quest to enhance good corporate governance and its way of doing business, SPEDU has established a hotline tip-off mechanism.

Speaking at the launch recently, Member of the SPEDU Finance and Audit Committee, Mr Motlamorago Gaseitsewe said the board of directors had introduced a whistle blowing system or tip-off hotline, for stakeholders to raise concerns freely.

He said SPEDU was committed to the highest standards of ethical, moral and legal business conduct, adding that ethical business behaviour was the responsibility of every employee in the organisation. He said thus, SPEDU expected stakeholders, employees and members of the public, who had serious concerns about any aspect of the organisation, to voice their concerns via the appropriate available channels without fear of victimisation.

Mr Gaseitsewe explained that anyone could contact the hotline to report issues such as sexual harassment, criminal offences being committed or likely to be committed, fraud, corruption, bribery and money laundering, which he said would be treated confidentially. He said matters could be reported any time of the day at 16130, which can be accessed for free across all networks. For his part, Selebi Phikwe Mayor, Mr Lucas Modimana said the launch marked a critical milestone in the advancement of corporate governance in Botswana.

He also highlighted that corporate governance hinged on having proper mechanisms to report corruption, failing which, the whole process would be rendered useless. Mr Modimana said he was delighted that SPEDU was demonstrating the importance of using these mechanisms to enhance its corporate governance systems. “This will go a long way in inspiring confidence in investors, who intend to come to Selebi Phikwe and I believe other organisations will follow suit,” he said, stressing that enhancement of good governance, could go a long way in ascertaining productivity. Ends
