12 Nov 2020

Ghanzi District Council Assistant Supplies Manager, Mr Rowan Mosomane has cautioned women entrepreneurs against business fronting.

Speaking at Women in Business Association (WIBA) workshop on November 10, Mr Mosomane said fronting had the potential to render women economic empowerment schemes ineffective as well as ballooning their business tax debt.

He therefore urged women entrepreneurs not to fall prey to fronting but instead should exploit women empowerment initiatives and reservations schemes geared towards uplifting them.

The same sentiments were expressed by Bye Law Enforcement technician, Mr Nakale Matumba who said due to fronting, opportunities reserved for Batswana end up slipping through their fingers.

Mr Matumba also warned that fronting was an offence punishable by law.

WIBA President, Ms Nametso Ntsosa-Carr challenged women to grow their business. She called on them to change their attitude towards their business and to come up with innovative strategies.

“Your business should resemble you, packing of your products should be neat and take personal responsibility to market your products,” Ms Ntsosa-Carr stated

Also, she said Miss RADP projects should be taken seriously as they were geared towards empowering young women.

WIBA Secretary General, Ms Barati Seiketso said women entrepreneurs should draw a line between   a business and family and should have personal accounts and businesses accounts, “business account is not yours…”

WIBA Information Technology officer, Mr Ketlametswe Mogotsi encouraged women to exploit Information and Communications Technology (ICT) and social media platforms to market their business, adding that ‘during this COVID era people would spend most of their leisure in the internet’. Ends
