Shakawe police are investigating an incident in which a 90-year-old man of Lebodu ward at Xakao village in the Okavango Sub-district shot and killed his 65-year-old younger brother on Wednesday morning (November 11).

Superintendent Keitshokile Kebodiretse of Shakawe Police confirmed this in an interview stating that they received a report around 0810am from a concerned neighbour.

The neighbour, he averred, reported that they were alerted by a loud noise and when they hurried out of the house to investigate they met with a suspect holding a shotgun while the deceased was lying on the ground motionless.

Supt Kebodiretse noted that the police rushed to the scene and found the deceased in a pool of blood with a wound next to his left breast.

The deceased met his fate while visiting his brother.

The Shakawe police chief said the deceased was confirmed dead at Shakawe Primary hospital and currently awaiting postmortem. The suspect, he said, was expected to appear before Shakawe magistrate court while police investigations continue.

Supt Kebodiretse revealed that this was the second incident recorded in his policing jurisdiction since beginning of the year.

The first incident, he said took place around July at Samochima village where a young man lost his life after he fell on a sharp wood while in a physical fight with his girlfriend.

On other issues, Supt Kebodiretse said they were also investigating a drowning incident which involved a 10-year-old pupil of Kathiana Primary School in Shakawe who was reported missing on Monday.

He said it was reported that the deceased went missing while swimming with his schoolmates in the Okavango River.

Following the report from the parents, Supt Kebodiretse said they embarked on a search and his body was retrieved on Wednesday.

He said the boy was certified dead upon arrival at the hospital. Ends
