Bedrock Gardens embodies true agro-tourism character

03 Nov 2020

The owner and managing director of Bedrock Gardens Thamaga, Mr David Nkete has implored Batswana to exploit opportunities presented by agro-tourism to grow the economy.

Speaking in an interview on the sidelines of Food Hub launch at the farm in Thamaga on Saturday, he challenged fellow citizens to tap into opportunities presented by agro-tourism to take the country to another level.

Botswana is currently stepping up in high gear to transform the economy from an upper-middle-income country to a high-income country by 2036 and sets out a compelling vision of what the future will look like and in the process create broad prosperity for all.

It is, therefore, against this backdrop that the entrepreneur advises citizens to venture into agro-tourism projects to build a prosperous economy after which the cake would be shared in an ‘all-inclusive approach’.

Mr Nkete’s facility, which comprises of an assortment of recreational amenities, has been operational for a year and has been a host to weddings, birthday carousing, gospel carnivals, music festivals and recreational swimming.

Bedrock Gardens boasts of a large swimming pool fitted with pool lights to reduce risks of unidentified drowning at night.

This is motivated by the fact that swimming for Nkete family is in the bloodline as the whole family are professional swimmers.

His 20-year-old first-born swims for the national team and is studying abroad under the government elite scholarship programme.

The endeavour is to impart the skill and knowledge of swimming to fellow citizens as well as build the love of swimming in the country.

He said besides recreational purposes, he intends to expand into aqua farming. This will be done alongside sport fishing, which will be for pleasure or competition.

So far ponds have already been built. ENDS
