Serame participates in WTO gathering
29 Oct 2020
Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI), Ms Peggy Serame recently participated at the informal gathering of World Trade Organisation (WTO) Ministers in her capacity as the Coordinator of the African Group on WTO issues.
A MITI news release says the meeting was hosted by Australia with a particular focus on deliverables the WTO can achieve, particularly on fisheries subsidies negotiations and the WTO’s contribution to spur global economic recovery.
It says small group ministerial meetings are ordinarily convened with the prospects of creating landing zones for consensus on the topical issues of the day with a view to guiding the WTO membership towards tangible deliverables.
The release also states that the meeting came after the COVID-19 outbreak affected the holding of the 12th WTO Ministerial conference, where decisions on all matters under any of the ministerial trade agreements are taken and Ms Serame also made a statement on behalf of African Group. Ends
