Initiative promotes Botswana tourism

Double Tracks Africa managing director, Mr Vincent Kokomane says his initiative with the Botswana’s fastest 800 metres champion, Nijel Amos to showcase what the country can offer in terms of tourism is producing positive results.

Double Tracks Africa partnered with Amos foundation to embark on a campaign to explore the country’s tourism products in an effort to promote domestic tourism.

The campaign also aimed to touch lives of the tourism workers, who had lost their jobs because of restriction of movement due to COVID-19 pandemic. 

The team motivated workers and donated food packages to relieve them the impact of the pandemic.Mr Kokomane revealed in an interview that their efforts were producing expected results as many people were coming on board to support the initiative. 

His company, he said, focused on bringing the world to Africa.

He appreciated that many people including both local and international community had highly welcomed the initiative.

He explained that partnering with Amos was a brilliant idea, describing him as a brand who attracted a lot of attention. In addition, he said fellow athletes across the world were reaching them through their website page.

He urged the public to continue coming onboard, book and appreciate the beauty of their tourism areas, facilities as well as to interact with Botswana athletics star.

Mr Kokomane acknowledged that some tourism operators had also welcomed their initiative, citing Khwai Private Reserve campsite located at Khwai village, in the Okavango Delta which recently hosted Amos and his team during their mission to touch lives of the community by donating food hampers.

He also cited that Spar Supermarket in Kasane came on board and assisted safari guides with food hampers. 

Mr Kokomane also thanked government for extending the COVID-19 wage subsidy so as to relieve workers from economic effects of the pandemic.

For his part, Nigel said since he missed Diamond League races this season, he decided to partner with Double Tracks Africa to reach out to the community and motivate them to adapt to the new normal.

He noted that the pandemic had affected all hence his efforts together with Double Tracks Africa to bring hope to the hopeless through motivation and charity activities.

Nigel said they would visit some villages, interact with the community including children and hold educational talks to motivate them to take their studies seriously.

He also thanked tourism operators who hosted his team, noting that they enjoyed a warm reception as well as excellent customer service.

Community liaison officer at Khwai Private Reserve, Mr Patrick July said they were happy to host Nigel and his team, noting that their initiative was a welcome development.

He said the initiative would bring a difference in the lives of the disadvantaged community. Ends
