Yamee App formerly known as MyFoodness has recently partnered with Sefalana supermarket for online grocery shopping and home deliveries.
In an interview with BOPA, the founder and CEO of Yamee App, Ms Boikaego Kgathi-Rusmussen said the App provided a large selection of products for customers to order online and ease of payment through digital methods.
“We are here to provide people with what they need without them having to venture out of their homes or offices unnecessarily. Sefalana is a much loved supermarket and we responded to our customers’ request to have it on the App so they can enjoy buying their groceries with no hassles”, she added.
Ms Kgathi-Rusmussen indicated that the App was well received by the customers who seem to enjoy having their favourite goodies delivered to their homes or offices where they could stay safe especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.
She noted that the intention was to empower users since they contributed to uplifting the local economy, by buying from local businesses on their App, adding that the number of users was growing daily as more people enjoyed the simplicity, convenience and ease that comes with using the App.
Furthermore she explained that the platform was safe to use with digital payments making it easier and safer for users to not have to carry cash, adding that digital payments also created a safer environment for their riders (delivery personnel) who did not have to worry about being robbed as they did not carry cash.
“Other than that, when Covid-19 hit, we immediately re-trained all our riders and introduced contact-less delivery, ensuring strict health and safety measures to protect both our riders and customers”, she highlighted.
Ms Kgathi-Rusmussen said they were elated by the support they received from Gaborone populace, adding that they were planning on expanding so that many other small businesses and locals who need the ease of the service could use the App.
Moreover, she said Yamee App, as the first ever mobile commerce technology platform to come out of Botswana had a significant impact in the country, saying they continued to lift the flag of this country and draw outside attention to Botswana tech startups.
“Unlike other platforms elsewhere, we actually own our technology. Through our platform, we enable local businesses to go digital without having to spend vast amounts of money to develop the tech nor having the complex know-how to build such a platform”, she explained.
She said their contribution to the economy was witnessed through empowering a lot of small logistics companies and freelancers who earned money by doing deliveries and having guaranteed business.
She also said they played a pivotal role during lockdown where they helped people to stay home as they could simply order for delivery through their App and not have to exchange cash or have any contact during delivery.
