While business plans have been aborted due to outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic, for some companies, the effects were eye opening.
The Bulb World Company is one of those as it has embarked on an initiative dubbed :Lesedi ke Mpho.
The company had identified a problem that caused setbacks in the education calendar, stemming from COVID-19.
In an interview recently, the company’s Production Manager Ms Lebogang Moyo, said the youth owned company, The Bulb World had teamed up with FNBB to help the government.
Through the collaboration they will be reconnecting the lighting systems in schools.
Ms Moyo said while they intended to supply schools with the bulbs they realised that most lighting system were vandalised hence they engaged another youth owned company to assist with reconnections and refitting.
She said the initiative aimed at identifying government schools that were in serious need of assistance especially boarding schools to enable learners to study in the evening.
Ms Moyo said as a newly founded company, the Bulb World currently enjoyed support from the retails and were now looking into venturing into larger projects like supplying the government.
Through their corporate social responsibility the company created a platform for learning as the company recognises the need to empower the youth through accessibility to resources that aid in their learning such as lighting.
The Production manager said as young people, they believed in the importance of education as a tool to transform lives, adding that it was the first step towards empowering the youth.
Ms Moyo explained that the initiative was kickstarted at Lobatse Senior Secondary School and the initiative was to be rolled out nationally.
She expressed delight on the possibility of other banking institutions coming on board to spur the initiative further. ENDS
