Beneficiaries contribute towards economic growth

18 Oct 2020

President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi says his dream as a Vision 2036 champion is to see Batswana playing a meaningful role in the local economy.

Handing over a buck to Ms Bakhana Rathaga of Diponyane cattle post near Mantshwabisi on Saturday, he said through improved livestock, beneficiaries would be able to sell their produce at a higher price and make profits while at the same time contribute towards economic growth.

Ms Rathaga was given goats in 2015 through poverty eradication initiative and she never looked back.

While she sold some to purchase necessities for her family, she managed to increase  them as she now has 40 goats and three kids.

The President said this was impressive because it showed dedication and a high level of productivity, which could be exemplary to other Batswana.

Minister of Agriculture Development and Food Security,  Mr Karabo Gare said the national flock  stood at 1.5 million, but the number as well as the quality had  to be improved in order to meet the demands of the international markets.

He said the buck would improve the flocks even in nearby kraals.

The minister said government would continue to mentor beneficiaries and train them on livestock management.

For her part, Ms Rathata thanked the President Dr Masisi for his gesture and said she would take care of the buck. ENDS
