Criminal incidents slightly up in Mochudi

04 Oct 2020

Police in Mochudi recorded a slight increase of criminal activities during this year’s independence holidays as compared to the previous year during the same time.

Speaking in an interview recently, Officer Commanding District No. 12, Senior Superintendent Lesole Mosimane, said they recorded three cases of rape, six gender-based violence cases as well as one case of threat to kill between September 30 and October 1.

He said for the same period last year, they recorded two rape cases, and four gender-based violence cases in his district.

Investigations, he said, indicated that most rape offences occurred during or after entertainment events, adding that three cases in just two days were worrisome.

Snr Supt Mosimane also said they registered one case of suicide of a Bokaa woman aged between 30 and 40 years.

The deceased, according to the police chief, left a suicide note that stated she was experiencing life challenges, which left her with no other alternative, but to take her life.

Snr Supt said investigations indicated that the woman committed suicide on the evening of September 30 and was found hanging on the rafters by relatives on the morning of October 1.

He pleaded with the public to always seek help from their chiefs, parents, pastors and professionals when going through difficult times.

Snr Supt Mosimane said generally the public did not give them any trouble with regards to acquiring travel permits during independence. Ends
