Sebonego ward man dies after fire engulfes his room

01 Oct 2020

Kanye Police are investigating a case in which a 65-year old man of Sebonego ward died after fire engulfed his room while sleeping recently.

According to Kanye Police Station Commander, Superintendent Mmoloki Mogale suspicions are that the fire must have been caused by a candle that was used to light the room.

He said although the man was not burned by the fire, his possessions were burnt and destroyed in the process.

Spt Mogale said the deceased who had rented a two-bedroomed house and was living alone managed to escape the fire, but suspicions are that, he was suffocated by the smoke which engulfed the room.

He said upon arrival at the scene they found the deceased lying next to the door inside the room that was burning.

He said investigations were ongoing, adding that, this was the third similar case in Sebonego ward since 2018.

He advised that parents required a certain level of care, therefore they should never be left alone, but rather under the care of a companion or a guardian.

Furthermore, Spt Mogale called on the public to assist in finding a 68-year old Ms Constance Ramokgwana who had been reported to be missing last week Thursday. He said the woman was last seen by her partner while at the Diphawana lands near Kanye.

However, he said it had been reported that a misunderstanding has ensued between the woman and her partner about her partner’s delay to arrive home from work.

He noted that cases of missing persons were on the rise, adding that people should develop the habit of seeking guidance from elders and relatives whenever they had misunderstandings with their spouses rather than fleeing.

Meanwhile, Spt Mogale said they were still searching for a 24-year old Ratanang Ralokha of Tsopye ward suspected to have caused fire to a number of houses and cars recently.

He said so far about five houses and two cars had been set on fire. Therefore, he appealed to the public to come forth with information that could assist in arresting the suspect.  ENDS
