MP hails Township Rollers supporters

Township Rollers supporters in Maun have been hailed for demonstrating love and care towards the less privileged society.
As part of their corporate social responsibility, the supporters donated food hampers to an elderly woman of Boseja ward in Maun.
Tomeletso Mphoyamodimo, a mother of three, is staying with her two sons and grandchildren in a rented one room.
Speaking during the handing ceremony, Maun East MP, Goretetse Kekgonegile showered the supporters with accolades, saying the donation would make a huge difference in the lives of the beneficiary and her family.
He said it was pleasing to see football clubs ploughing back into the community and advised supporters to embark on sustainable projects which could empower beneficiaries. He noted that ‘Popa Popa’ had a history across the country as far as corporate social responsibility was concerned.
He noted that some Township Rollers supporters across the country had embarked on projects such as connection of water standpipes and donations. He added that some had extended their service to the fencing of households and construction of pit latrines in order to restore dignity amongst the owners.
Kekgonegile advised the supporters to consider working as a unit rather than having many branches within Maun, adding that they could combine their efforts and resources to do more.
Maun has two Township Rollers branches.
Area councillor, Itumeleng Kelebetseng also thanked Township Rollers supporters for a job well done, saying the donation came at the right time as the country was still battling the COVID-19 pandemic.
He urged other football clubs to emulate what Township Rollers supporters were doing and make a positive impact in society.
Kelebetseng, who is also the chairperson of Sankoyo Bush Bucks, was impressed by Township Rollers formation of branches and membership benefits, adding that the team was a brand.
On behalf of the family, Patrick Mphoyamodimo thanked the supporters for putting a smile on her mother’s face and wished the team could grow so that it could extend a helping hand to others.
Township Rollers regional coordinator, Monthusi Gaborapelwe explained that the club encouraged its branches across the country to assist the community as part of their corporate social responsibility initiative.
The beneficiary, he said, was identified through the help of social workers. He said he believed the family would have something to eat during independence celebrations.
He also said it was not the first time they assisted in Maun, noting that the Maun main branch once donated clothing and goods to Bana Ba Letsatsi, an organisation which provides rehabilitation services to vulnerable children.
Supporters, he said, also connected a water standpipe at one household at Shashe ward. “We wanted to demonstrate to our community that our team is not only focused on playing soccer, but we also do care about our community,” he added. ENDS
