Amrouche stays put

20 Sep 2020

Zebras coach, Adel Amrouche says he has no plans to dump the team, but rather to take it to greater heights.

This comes after speculations were rife recently that he would join South Africa’s club, Kaizer Chiefs, which had since appointed Gavin Hunt as their head coach.

Amrouche said in an interview that as a professional coach, he respected contractual obligations he had with Botswana Football Association (BFA).

He emphasised that he was still Zebras’ head coach and would continue doing his duties as stipulated in the contract.

Amrouche said he would not be deterred from transforming the national team.

“I think the reports were meant to send the governing body, national team players and supporters into confusion.

They were not in any way contributing to the growth of the national team,” he said

Meanwhile, BFA public relations officer, Tumo Mpatane said the coach was committed to building a formidable squad in the region with focus on improving Zebras’ style of play.

He said reports that the coach might leave the Zebras were disturbing, adding that currently, the coach was in his home country, Belgium due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mpatane said they were expecting him in Botswana in two weeks to continue with his duties as the national team coach.

The team is expected to resume their national duty in November when they compete in the 2021 African Cup of Nations group stage qualifying rounds. ENDS
