Savanna and Sky Hunting Safari Company has pledged to construct three predator-proof kraals for Nxaraga community as part of its social responsibility initiatives.
Savanna and Sky Hunting Safaris prides itself on running ethical hunting safaris of the highest quality and currently, the company has won a tender for elephant hunting in one of the prime hunting area, NG35 which includes Nxaraga village.
Nxaraga Village Development Committee (VDC) vice-chairperson, Mr Geoffrey Manja confirmed to BOPA in an interview that officials from the company had promised to construct three predator-proof kraals during their visit to Nxaraga to acclimatize themselves with the area.
He said the VDC committee welcomed the donation and proposed that one of the kraals be constructed at the kgotla and the second one at loading ranch.
For the third kraal, they requested that instead, the company should give them money which will be channelled towards renovations of VDC houses.
Mr Manja said their plan was to electrify four of the houses which had been rented to public officers.
He appreciated that the company was not averse to their idea and advised them to collect quotations for wiring material.
He also noted that efforts were underway to venture into tourism activities as their village prides itself with hippos at the two water pools namely; Nxaraga and Nxachai ponds.
The hippos, he said had the potential to turn Nxaraga into a tourism destination adding that Save Botswana had donated some equipment such as solar panels which were used to pump water at the pools during drought.
Mr Manja noted that VDC wanted to request a waiver from the council to use the area as a campground where people could come for leisure. He said they would not put up permanent structures but guests would bring along their own camping equipment while the villagers would provide entertainment and share their lifestyle.
He revealed that there was a tourism company which had showed interest to partner with them and utilise the hippo ponds.
The company, he said, intended to embark on activities such as boat excursions and other activities that would attract tourists. ENDS
