16 Sep 2020

Sethunya Macala who is facing eight counts of obtaining by false pretences will appear before Kasane Senior Magistrate, Ms Kose Makobo on December 07 to get an update on the status of the matter.

Macala (34) of Francistown who is accused of obtaining a total amount of P50 500 from eight people in Kasane between August 2018 and June 2020 by false pretences appeared before Kasane Magistrate Court on Monday.

Earlier on, the accused’s attorney, Ms Goabaone Kelentshitse of Tiego Attorneys pleaded with the court to set the case for status hearing on a date not earlier than March 2021 as she was scheduled to go on maternity leave.

Ms Kelentshitse further added that the proposed dates will give the prosecution sufficient time to continue with investigations.

State representative, Sergeant Boikhutso Sekadima argued that the dates proposed by defence attorney were too far.

Sgt. Sekadima further told the court that investigations on the matter were on-going and that the prosecution was still awaiting information from other stakeholders in the matter such as Network Service Providers, Department of Roads, Transport and Safety and Commercial Banks.

Macala, who was initially charged with her husband, Goitsemang Matshwane, is currently on a P20 000 bail while her husband was discharged from the offence.

The facts of the matter are that Macala between August 2018 and June 2020, obtained different amounts of money from eight people pretending that she was one, Ms Mlazie and had a taxi permit for rental. ENDS
