Ramotswa police are to repatriate nine foreigners; seven Zimbabweans and two South Africans, after they entered the country illegally.
The Zimbabweans are four men, two women and a child. Ramotswa Police Station Commander Superintendent Keoagile Tau in an interview said they arrested two Zimbabwean women and a child over the weekend who were on transit from South Africa to Zimbabwe. He said the immigrants confessed that they had been in South Africa during the lockdown and they were homesick.
The other four Zimbabwean men were arrested recently while trying to smuggle tobacco into the country.
He said the police also arrested two South African men for illegal entry into the country at different intervals.
Of the two, one was also charged for staying in the country illegally as he had been staying with his Motswana girlfriend.
He said the girlfriend has been charged for harbouring an illegal immigrant.
Supt Tau said the police had received a tip off, which led to the search of the girlfriend’s home and subsequent arrest.
The station commander pointed that during their search, the girlfriend denied knowledge of the said illegal immigrant but he was found hiding at her place. ENDS
