Contaminated Liqui Fruit juice not in shops

Competition and Consumer Authority says it is satisfied that the contaminated 330ml Liqui Fruit red grape juice has not reached shop shelves.
Following the Ministry of Health and Wellness’ instruction that the contaminated product should be recalled with immediate effect, the Competition and Consumer Authority, said it undertook a surveillance inspection to ensure that there was compliance with the health directive.
And most importantly, it ensured that consumers were not exposed to health risks.
In an interview the authority’s director of communications and stakeholder relations, Mr Gideon Nkala, said the surveillance inspection covered 169 retailers and distributors in 18 villages and urban centres.
“Arising from these inspections no items bearing the batch numbers were found on shop shelves,” he stated.
However, he said, a total of 3 640 cases of Liqui Fruit red grape bearing the said batch numbers were found at two major distributors of the product.
However, the batch numbers were proactively cordoned off by the distributors following communication from the producer or manufacturer.
He urged consumers to still be vigilant and ensure that they did not consume nor buy the 330 ml Red Grape Liqui Fruit bearing product details; Pioneer Foods Product Code: 27327, Outer case Barcode: 6001240225615, Shrink pack Barcode: 6001240225608, Single Unit Barcode: 60001240225595 (printed on side of can), Date markings: (see bottom of can) BB 01.04.2021 C Time and BB 02.04.2021 C TIME.
