Batswana have been urged to embrace the Dinwele Dladleng concept to help curb the spread of COVID-19.
Briefing the media on September 6, Head of secretariat at the Botswana Alcohol Industry Association, Mr Jacob Sesinyi said drinking alcohol at home was not a new thing as it had been done in the past.
He noted that some people preferred drinking at home.
Mr Sesinyi said drinking at home was a practice that needed to be embraced by all, saying the misconception that when one consumed alcohol at home, their children would turn into drunkards should be addressed differently.
He said some responsible citizens were brought up with proceeds sale of traditional brew, saying such people never became drunkards.
Mr Sesinyi said the Dinwele Dladleng campaign which was launched last week by the Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, Ms Peggy Serame came as a solution to allow the continued sale of alcohol and on the other hand curbing the escalation of COVID-19 cases that the country was experiencing. He said the campaign called on everyone to play a role in promoting responsible drinking.
He urged Batswana to police each other on this issue because the closure of alcohol sale affected everybody.
Mr Sesinyi said they would soon launch a whistling blowing APP that is being designed by Batswana.
The App will be used to report those alcohol consumers who will be not complying with the Dinwele Dladleng campaign.
He said the APP was designed in such a way that photos could be sent through as evidence of what one would be reporting about, saying they were partnering with the police to ensure that those who broke the law were dealt with immediately. ends
