Botswana in equal pay club

Brazil on Wednesday joined the likes of Botswana to pay both men and women’s football teams a similar amount of appearance and daily allowances while in camp.
Brazilian Football Confederation president, Rogerio Caboclo, was quoted by United Kingdom Telegraph saying they had equaled the prize money and allowances between men and women teams.
Consequently, Brazil’s female players such as Marta, Formiga and Leticia Santos would receive the same fees and allowances as Neymar, Gabriel Jesus and Roberto Firmino.
Australia, Norway and New Zealand were among nations that decided to pay their men and women similar amounts.
Botswana Football Association (BFA) spokesperson, Tumo Mpatane, confirmed that the association paid men and women teams the same appearance and camp fees of P3 500 and P100 respectively
“We pay our athletes the same amount. They have all earned the right to don the blue, black and white jersey,” he said.
Mpatane, however, said a lot had to be done to equal the playing field for the men and women’s game from a club perceptive.
He said although the resources were not the same at club level, expectations were that with time they could advance the women’s game to hold its own.
Furthermore, he said commercially and administratively, they had to do more for clubs to be comfortable to reach a level where both men and women teams were treated equally. Ends
