Maun youth businesses benefit from subsidy

 Maun Administration Authority (MAA) chairperson Mr Vepaune Moreti says 16 youth businesses in the MAA area have benefited from COVID-19 subsidy that was aimed to assist businesses with salaries for April to June.

Opening the MAA council session on August 24, Mr Moreti said a total of 40 companies had applied for the relief subsidy and only 16 were successful.He said about P153 000 was approved to assist the business owners and their employees.

Mr Moreti said a total amount of P821 500 was allocated for the arts and culture subsidy where 725 artists benefitted from the 1 139 who had applied.

He said MAA also undertook a social empowerment initiative that targeted tailors in Maun.

He said the initiative that was sponsored by Project Sanitize Maun benefitted 26 tailors who produced masks that were distributed to Maun schools.On other issues, Mr Moreti said some projects were affected by COVID-19 in the MAA area.

He cited Constituency Community Projects (CCP) for 2020/2021 which he said would be suspended due to the pandemic.

Mr Moreti noted that the projects had been affected by challenges such as unavailability of land, termination of contracts by artisans as well as lack of continuation due to lockdown. ends
