Police recently nabbed an armed suspect who allegedly fought, fired bullets at the police and escaped to South Africa in a stolen police vehicle.

Speaking in an interview, assistant commissioner Dipheko Motube confirmed that the police were investigating a case in which a young man of 26 years allegedly fought with the police in Tsabong when he was being questioned.

It is reported that a young man reported to Tsabong Police that he found his car tyres cut.

The police moved swiftly to look for the perpetrator whose footsteps led them to a house in Bontleng ward in Tsabong where they found the suspect.

He said hell broke loose during the questioning process when the police asked the suspect about what had happened. The young man allegedly became infuriated and tried to shoot at the police.

However, the police fought to confiscate the riffle but their efforts were unsuccessful as the suspect managed to escape. He stole the police vehicle and fled to South Africa.

Soon after the suspect skidded off in a police vehicle, a police chopper was dispatched and managed to locate the stolen vehicle which was found dumped at a farm in South Africa but the suspect had escaped.

However, Botswana Police enlisted the help of South African Police to search for the suspect who was nabbed at Vansail’s Farm located in South Africa near Middlepits village.

He explained that investigations were still at an early stage and they were investigating a rather complex cross border crime as the identity of the suspect was yet to be determined to ascertain whether he was a South African or a Motswana.

He said there were no causalities during the incident as the police involved sustained minor injuries. ends
