Court remands rape accused pending bail application ruling

Ghanzi Magistrate court has remanded in custody a 34- year -old man of Kgaphamadi ward in Ghanzi, who is facing a single count of rape.
Osego Mosetlhane is accused of raping one woman on or about July 14 at Bosele ward in Ghanzi, and has since pleaded not guilty to the charge. He has also told court that he will conduct his own defence.
His application for bail was opposed by prosecution, Sub Inspector Chinga Pateletso of Ghanzi police.
Investigating officer, Detective Constable Lebogang Ramere pleaded with court to deny the accused bail on grounds that investigations were still ongoing and the accused was not the candidate for bail as he had been on the run since the alleged crime, until nabbed in Mahalapye for another offence.
She also said the accused had a habit of violating bail conditions.

Mosetlhane was also arraigned for three counts of theft and on the third count he was charged alongside Oageng Letsholo of Kopong.
Mosetlhane appeared for mention for three separate cases before Ghanzi magistrate court, namely rape, assaulting police officer while on duty and unlawful wounding.
Unlawful wounding charges were however withdrawn with liberty to be reinstated. Ends
