Police arrest two for dagga possession

16 Aug 2020

Police in Good Hope are investigating a case in which two men were found with 225 bags of a substance suspected to be dagga estimated to be worth P318 000.

Good Hope Station Commander, Superintendent Mogomotsi Kwapa told BOPA on Friday that the two suspects aged 34 and 31 were apprehended by police Thursday evening at a roadblock in Metlojane.

The two were driving in separate cars, a Honda Fit and Toyota Dyna while the suspected substance was stashed under bags of corn in the back of the Dyna.

Police also discovered P32 000 cash on the suspect driving the Honda Fit, which they took for further investigations.

Supt Kwapa said police suspected the dagga to have been smuggled in from South Africa.

The two are from Mokatako and Molepolole. He said they were concerned about the number of suspected dagga cases in the area. He said it seemed the suspects had now made it a habit to use Good Hope and other villages along the border as a route to bring dagga into the country.

He said they also had a case where two men were caught with bags of dagga worth P242 000 in May. ENDS
