Liquor sales suspended countrywide
06 Aug 2020
President Dr Mokgweetsi Masisi has suspended all liquor licences issued in terms of the Liquor Act with immediate effect.
According to Government Gazette published on Wednesday evening this is in accordance with regulation 30G of the Emergency Powers (COVID-19) Regulations 2020.
The notice says the suspension of the sale of alcohol is based on evidence that consumption of alcohol increases risks posed by COVID-19, due to its negative effects on adherence to the protocols.
It says all liquor stores in the country shall remain closed and liquor shall not be sold or consumed in public places until further notice.
The notice further underscores that the suspension included the sale of traditional beers. Ends
